I can get practically everything I need for my groceries from this store including my favorite gluten-free bread.

Cute little store with friendly staff. I'm impressed at the variety they carry given the size.

After regularly shopping at this grocery store for almost 2 years, I can sadly no longer recommend this place. While the stores inventory grew exponentially over the past few months, which was a great thing, it seems like their customer service and quality of produce and meat at the meat counter has gone downhill. Some of the vegetables sold either go bad rather quickly or are already in fairly bad condition. The ground meats (sausage, beef) do not taste good anymore, who knows why. Most of the employees that used to work here were usually friendly and helpful, but especially in recent months a bunch of new people joined their team and I just have to say that most of them are neither friendly nor helpful, and some of them even seem a bit unqualified for the position they are in (employee at meat counter not using gloves, for example). You used to be able to have a friendly chat with the people at the check-out counters, this also is no longer the case as most of them (though not all) seem to be apathetic or indifferent, it also doesn't help that most of these individuals choose to still wear face masks, which makes the interaction even more impersonal. Last but not least it's been very frustrating that the store is not offering many alternatives to buying their meats at the meat counter, they hardly have any meats available in the freezer aisle. One would think they would have frozen ground beef available, as every other grocery store does, but it seems that they are wanting you to buy their house-made ground beef. All in all I'm just disappointed with the store for all of these reasons. I used to love shopping here since it was always a very peaceful atmosphere, the employees seemed happy and I enjoyed supporting a local business that is not one of the grocery mega chains, but sadly it is not working out for me any longer.

Love this market! Looking forward to the remodel being done. This place is small but mighty- a great asset to the community. Hope they are successful and stick around for a very long time!

We do now accept EBT at all of our Basics market locations. It took some time for us to get up and running with EBT at our Hillsdale and Lovejoy markets, but not for lack of trying. Our main driving purpose at Basics is to nurture strong, healthy communities (through food) around our markets. In addition to providing our neighborhoods with good local food and great prices, we are also committed to supporting our communities and their challenges of food insecurity with in-kind donations, including continuing donations to food pantries and other organizations helping distribute food to those in need. Thanks for your understanding and support!
