Hi Allison, the wood is treated with a sealant that makes it waterproof. You can rinse out the growler as usual. To care for the wood, it's best to use a damp sponge or dry rag to wipe the wood if needed. Do not submerge the growler and don't use chemicals on it. Some breweries dunk growlers in chemical baths before filling them...this would destroy the wood. The copper will patina over time, as all copper items do. It can be easily polished by hand, or left to patina, it's up to you. Hope that helps!
