It's not a true tourist attraction because you can't actually tour the home. You can only see the outside. Not to mention it's in the heart of a hood so beware, snap a pic, and speed away.

After all of these years I finally went to see the Jackson family home in Gary. The city really does a good job taking care of the house and grounds.

We were driving from Chicago to Detroit, so stopping in Gary wasn't an issue for us as it was just off the interstate. Otherwise, there's absolutely no sense coming. Basically, you see an ordinary house like all others in the neighborhood, with a small statue and three pavement plaques from family. You cannot enter it, there's no museum, no other info,...nothing. I hope it will be improved some day, but at least we payed our respect to MJ pop icon.

On the 'Resilient Midtown Tour 2' it was interesting to hear Dinahlynn Biggs tell us about the Jackson's who she knows. Dinahlynn is from Gary and is now a famous radio personality and radio station owner. She talked to some of the Jacksons to get some growing-up stories just for our tour. A short video of her talk is posted here.
