I came in for a regular dreadlock maintenance and first of she told me that it was 85 and jack the price all the way up to 120 because she washed my hair in some stuff that was supposed to be the best for your dreads please any that gets there hair wash by them don’t use it it will put a chemical film in your hair your better of using dog shampoo. So let’s go into the way she twisted my dreads she made almost all of my dreads thin at the base on purpose to make my dreads fall out I have went to other people to fix it and they said whatever way she is doing is wrong and your dead will in the long run fall off and I had two dreads that was a little grown together and instead of cutting them down the middle she cut it into it and made the and thin base with two locks it to much weigh for it. Please go to anyone else but her to get your hair done I hope I can get my money back if not I guess court we go.

Melat is an absolute live saver! Ive had dreadlocks for 10 years and they started to fall out (I lost about 20) and within a few hours, not only did she reattatch the dreads that caMe out, but she completely revived my whole head of locs. I couldn't be anymore happy. MELAT IS THE BEST

Melat is an amazing person, she goes out of her way to accommodate you when making an appointment. She is probably the only person offering dreadlock services in the greater Portland area, as most of the other businesses have closed or gone completely silent. Despite taking on the client load of the whole city of Portland She still maintains high standards in her work. I had my dreadlocks started at another now closed business and they didn't mature very well. The maintenance they did perform was very aggressive and damaging to both my hair and the roots of my dreadlocks. Melat was able to not only correct the shoddy work, but save some of my dreadlocks that had begun severely thinning at the roots. Everyone knows there is a little pain involved with dreads, but Melat has the expertise and experience to make your session comfortable and repair anything that might be worrying you. Melat is also one of the nicest people I have ever met, I've been going to her shop regularly for about 2 years now and it's always nice to walk in and feel welcome. My dreads are 6 years old and they look better than they ever have. When it comes to dreadlocks (starting or maintaining) Melat's is definitely the place you should look into first.

When I booked an appointment for maintenance through their website, they instruct clients to follow up if they don’t hear back from a stylist within 24 hours. I went 2 days without hearing from someone so I followed up to verify my appointment. When I reached out, Melat told me my appointment wasn’t set and I gave her my info and the date of my original appointment. Thankfully the date and time was still open so I followed through. No problem there. Now when I arrived, Melat tells me that she’s finishing up with a client and she should be done in 30 minutes. Fine, that’s typical for dread services. I was supposed to meet a friend but I wasn’t in a rush. Then she asked me what happened to my eye(I’m a boxer and had been in a skirmish 3 days prior) so my eye was a little busted and red. She asked me if I had a ‘disease’(her exact words) and I explained to her that I was in a bout and even showed the extent of the damages to my face. Disrespectful but I shrugged it off in order to get this done, I’d waited a week to get in at this point. She said okay and went back to finishing up with her client. A few minutes later she comes back and asks ‘did you wash your hair?’. I washed my hair two days prior. It’s not like I wash my locks every day for obvious reasons. I still have a life and I maintain my locks very well with scalp treatments, baths, and regular twists at home. That seemingly wasn’t enough and her whole tone and demeanor changed as though she was unwilling to do my hair by that point. Long story long, I left and still have to make an appointment elsewhere. It’s a huge inconvenience. So save your time and money. Look for a stylist that enjoy’s their work and treats their clients with tact and respect.
