A large old school family restaurant, apparently heavily frequented by the older folk looking for that blue plate special. The meatloaf with gravy was just like grandma used to make it, the Reuben sandwich was juicy, and the seasoned fries hit the spot. Friendly and competent service too. And then there's the homemade pies... It's a lost art. The cherry pie was tart and not too sweet, and the peanut butter creme pie was rich and decadent.

When traveling, we like to experience the local flavor. Usually, it's a lunch stop. We didn't see anything but the chain restaurants advertised on the highway, so we headed to the ubiquitous Cracker Barrel. As we turned onto the road just off the exit, we saw Mrs. Rowe's diner. It was a little after 1pm on Sunday, and they closed at 2, so we decided to check it out. Nice, clean, inviting entrance. A 'little old lady' was sweeping the waiting area. Maybe Mrs. Rowe?? Hmm 🤔.... could've been. Because it was late, they were out of a few items, but we had enough to choose from. Our waitress, Hailey, was great, and I asked for recommendations. I chose the fried chicken BLT and a side of cucumber and onion salad. I was a bit hesitant as the cucs looked like they might be mushy, but they were actually very good. Hubby had a chicken salad sandwich and potato salad. All were good. I was intrigued and impressed by the notice on the hostess station describing their ventilation system; I've never seen that in a restaurant. Even the Ladies room had a long, cushioned bench at the entrance. They also have a bakery section which was nearly empty due to the closing time. Apparently, there's quite a history with Mrs. Rowe's, as evident by the many pics and newspaper articles on the walls. I would definitely go again and try some of the entrées and desserts.
