We didn't go inside so I can't comment on the exhibits, but the grounds were lovely.

I've been to a few museums over the course of my life, but this is definitely one of my favorites. Definitely small, but the collections they have are of pure quality. Great selection of sculptures, paintings, other visual art, and even interactive exhibits such as a wall where you can draw your own painting and place it with those of other patrons'. I found a lot of lovely pictures to admire and had an excellent time walking around and trying to soak everything in. The exterior of the museum is also beautiful, with an even lovelier view outside. Service here was top-notch. Every single employee I came across here was friendly and helpful. Willing to talk, or leave you alone, depending on which you want. The security guard saw me circling around a couple of times, and had a short conversation with me to recommend what he thought was the best part of the museum, the ornate chess set collection, and I'm happy he told me about it. The Maryhill Museum of Art was an excellent deal. Prices for admission are surprisingly cheap! They also have a small gift shop that barely looked like a store, but at least had some knick-knacks and other art-related things that you can buy at reasonable prices. I was happy to provide them with a donation and I hope people will keep doing so for them to keep running, as it's an excellent and enriching service.

All staff were following Covid safety procedures, we and everyone we saw were wearing mask. This place was very unusual collection of art. The Sam Hill video is a must at the very start so you will understand the whole vibe around this place. A wide gambit of art pieces & history. Like they collected stuff from around the world then dropped it into one place. Don't miss the hundreds of custom chess pieces in the lower area. The fact this place was to be a home was not surprising due to the rich story of Sam Hill. The outside art & walking area was very relaxing. Cafe was closed, but WHO CARES we didn't go there to eat. We took lots of pictures of the chess sets, because our 26 yr old grandson would love this. Don't let any negative reviews of this place stop you from checking it out for yourself. Your family can even picnic here. LOTS of RV & bus parking

Did not expect to see such diversity of collections. Very impressive Native American craft collection and well arranged. Interesting Paris after World War II miniature fashion shows. The Romania folks costumes are impressive. The chess set collection is fun to see. The ground is dotted with sculptures. We spent most morning there. Very interesting architecture with the host, Sam Hill, wanting to have guests sleep on the top deck to see the stars. This museum inspires.

They have chess sets from all over the world. Must be close to 100 sets.
Sam Hill intended to establish a Quaker community out there. His mansion on the hill to overlook it all, was not complete at his death. His friends brought the museum to fruition. It is a fascinating story, with several books about Sam and Maryhill.
I haven't seen them in probably over a decade.
