Wonderful staff matched an adoptee ( Buttercup now know as Tessa ) with our current dog, Tucker (tan). They are best friends! Thank you P.A.W.S. !

My families cat was stolen by their neighbor and brought to paws. They had called paws within the 48 hours and was told to check their site but then were told the site was down. Now they have to apply to re adopt their cat but weren’t given the chance to really claim their animal. That’s cruel. Great job!

I adopted a young dog last fall whom was thought to be malnourished. Very skinny. Had high content of hookworms found out after I adopted him. Then found he had a hard time keeping up playing with dogs even though he wasn't even a year old. He got out of breath and stopped to pant. My vet did blood work first and all was fine. Next did x-rays as she wondered if he was in pain. She randomly took an x-ray of his abdomen and found his organs were in his chest. He had chronic diaphragmatic hernia. I adopted him this way from PAWS. He was hit by a car as a younger puppy I found out. He needed a risky abdominal surgery or else his life would be shortened. I loved him and wanted to save him. Surgery done by experts in Portland estimated bill at $6000. My friend set up a GoFundMe page to help me save my dog. I asked PAWS if they could help. All they did was offer a few resources of organizations who could help whom I already had applied for assistance from. Nothing else. I took my dog to Portland Emergency Vet Clinic for surgery. He had complications the next day. Surgeon wanted to do another exploratory surgery to see why so much air was coming out of his chest tube. Had to come up with an additional $6000. Asked PAWS again if they could help out of desperation. They only gave me well wishes for a speedy recovery for my dog. I put so much effort and money and I couldn't stop. I took out an emergency loan. Surgeon couldn't find any leak in a lung or anything wrong after second surgery. Then I got a call an hour later saying my dog had passed away. PAWS adopted out a dog with a MAJOR medical condition that he obtained when he was younger in Texas as I found out he was hit by a car. I asked the director if they would consider waiving an adoption fee for me to have another dog since the one I adopted FOUR months ago died and the answer was "NO". I recently ran into someone affiliated with PAWS whom asked me how my dog was. Shocked, I told her the story and she had no idea. PAWS did not even share my Gofundme page amongst the staff and people there! I had shared it via email. She felt bad and had tears which created tears on my end. She contributed personally to help me with my loan payment. Her generosity touched my heart. I have since adopted a dog from Pope Memorial Humane Society in Thomaston. They were extremely helpful and kind. They will cover a recheck test for heartworm on my dog since he was positive at their cost. If by chance, he was still positive even though treated before adopted out, they will cover the treatment cost. They care about the animals. Pope provided a much better experience. I don't think I will ever get over the trauma I went through in losing my young dog who was only a year old.

Yes you can you have to just sing your First and last name and where you live.🤗🙂
We do not currently shelter small animals. Only cats and dogs can be found at our shelter.
Call them. 236 8702 leave a message if you have to
Adopting a dog from a shelter means you are getting an animal that has had a wellness check, is up to date on vaccinations, and has been spayed/neutered at a minimum. Buy a dog & you will have those costs out of pocket on top of paying a breeder (& I won't get into a reputable breeder vs a backyard breeder or puppy mill & feeding into that industry that). If a dog has been transported into the state by a reputable organization it has a wellness certificate to travel. You also get a certificate for a post adoption wellness visit with your vet from many shelters... It's also important for people to recognize the financial commitment of a pet from day one. If you can't afford the fee to adopt how will you afford ongoing vet visits and care or Lord forbid emergency care if your animal has an accident. Adoption fees barely cover the cost of care for most animals let alone overhead for the organization.

You can visit the dogs. We have all different breeds/mix breeds!
She is on the web site so she should be there.
I dont think so! You would have to call and ask.
Sorry no I don't. You can call Paws and they can probably answer your questions.
They will let anyone volunteer with permission I think....they even have programs for kids over vacations....such wonderful organization!!
I would contact your local animal control officer through police or town office
Check their website for pictures and cost information.
This is the only state I have lived in that you must pay $200+ to adopt a pet. Most states are free.. Sad!!! Yes animals cost money to up keep.. I can prove that my dog was treated like a princess and received the best, but as much as I would like to have another pet, since past 6 mths ago of cancer ... she was 12.. I can not afford the fees here! It blows my mind!!
I would call your local PAWS and ask. You may be better asking a vet to board your kitty, but ask PAWS first
You should contact PAWS directly and they will let you know when a boxer arrives.
