We were in town visiting friends who are locals and regulars at Wheelfish. What a treat! Excellent BBQ in a friendly place with a definite local flavor. The live music with the Baxter Brothers was a plus! Where else are you going to find 1920s classics played on a trumpet, trombone and accordion than in Pittsburgh? They do BBQ pretty well in NC but they don't do music like that.

What a great barbecue place in a North Hills neighborhood. We went on a Friday around 5ish and were greeted straight away by the hostess. Seated straightaway once we decided to sit indoors instead of outside. The place has a great vibe, the bar was busy, and Nina provided us with waters and the menu promptly. She was patient and answered all our questions, we had a person with a gluten allergy and she made sure to confirm things with the kitchen. Good draft selection, they also have bottles in the fridge you help yourself, they settle when you pay. We got the pork egg rolls as a starter, they came out piping hot with a dipping sauce, they had plenty of BBQ pork inside with vegetables, very tasty for sure. For the mains, we got a half pound of pork with fresh cut fries. I got the pulled pork sandwich with fresh cut fries. Let me just say the pork was super moist, and no fat at all. Usually when I get pork, I am always pulling out fat, but not today, I polished it all off including the fresh hot hand cut fries. The house BBQ sauces were great, I liked the bold sauce on the pork and the spicy one on the fries. We were full and the cost was very reasonable. Great service from our waitress Nina, who made sure to check on us. We will be back for sure, you have to try this place for great barbecue in the North Hills.

Excellent BBQ type sandwiches. Didn't know what to expect since this was first time here but our party of 4 were very satisfied with food and service. Would def return. Location isn't in typical area for business since it was former bar but worth a stop if near Thompson run rd. In Ross Twp.

Good food, great bar and a strong history for the building/barn where they are serving folks. We had a good time but the local watering hole brings together people from all walks of life and you can’t predict what that will mean, so show up and have a good time! Thanks for the hospitality, we hope to be back with some good music (this spot hosts events on a case by case basis)!

Hi Connie, Thanks for getting in touch! That is the original sign from the Skibo Cafe, a restaurant which operated on the Oakland campus of Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). Our grandfather owned and operated the restaurant for a few years until it closed at the beginning of WWII. I see your last name is Skibo...any tie to the Skibo Castle in Scotland? That is where the Skibo Cafe got it's name from. We hope you'll come visit Wheelfish someday! Take care :)
Briskets are really good. Salmon had too much of a smoke flavor. Like when you smell something burning outside. It was okay, but not my favorite.
There's a stop on Thompson run and Berkeley meadows court... Wheelfish is right around the corner...less than 2 minutes
