Carlsbad Lagoon Recreation Area

First time coming here and at first you think the area is not too clean for a beach like area. But the sand is just darker than usual but they have private rental areas for private parties, paddle boat rentals, canoe boat rentals, etc. Had a blast coming here and spent all day in the water areas. Would like to see the garbage cleaned out more but overall a great time.

Was a tad expensive to use their boat launch to put in my own Kayak but other than that they We're very friendly it wasn't very busy since it was overcast it even sprinkled on us a little bit. But it literally cost me $20 to launch my own kayak into the lagoon which did not smell the greatest FYI

Very nice experience. They didn't expect a hoard of clients on a gloomy, rainy, and cloudy day but there was one guy who was running around to help as fast as he can. He upgraded us bc some of the boats were down. My son had a blast!

First place I brought my folding sea kayak, when I shipped it from home in New York City to my father in law's place in Carlsbad. It was okay, not exactly scenic, but protected waters. I recall having my new sail rig with me but the folks not letting me test it out. Back then they really wanted most folks to use their stuff, including jet skis (which don't necessarily mix well w/sailing kayaks). This was back in 2006, so ancient history.
