This campground is my favorite to take beginners backpacking. Not too far from the trailhead but still challenging enough to give a real sense of camping. The toilet and water spigot help ease them in too.

Amazing views of you're lucky enough to get clear skies while you're there. 2+ miles uphill to get there from the small parking lot - be prepared to carry all your stuff up with you and back down!

With all the hiking available in the area this camp is a wonderful place to spend the night. It's also a great place for the campers with less hiking experience as the nearest parking lot is 1.7 miles away. That said it is 1 mile up a gravel road (not overly steep but def up) then it levels out for the remaining .7 miles. Site 3 is quite secluded and can easily fit 3-4 tents nicely depending on size. For larger parties site 5 and 6 and 12 are nice and also very shaded. I would avoid site 1 as the winds tend to Cary the smell from the restrooms. Site 9 fully exposed to sun and wouldn't be comfortable during the summer days.

Got here after an extended 30 mile loop going ccw from Bear Valley to Wildcat Camp, hiking along the coast, then inward and upward past Coast Camp to Sky Camp. The views aren't all that breathtaking as you'll have to hike more coastal to get those but they are well worth the effort. Disappointed in the lack of shade overall and views, esp for site #10, although it's very private! Had to retreat to some empty sites until the sun started setting. Being so close to the main trailhead, it was fairly crowded but also very clean and no mosquitos!

Depending on the site, you could be anywhere from 100' to 1500' from the vault toilets.
