Le Page Park sits on the John Day River just before it flows into the Columbia River about two hours east of Portland, OR. There is a day use area and a campground area. The day use area has a beautiful green lawn with grills beside picnic tables as well as a few tables under small shelters. That portion of the park has a boat ramp as well as boat trailer parking and a small but nice playground structure. There is a coarse sand beach bordering a slight cove in the river as well as both the day use and campground. We stayed two nights in the campground. Unlike the day use section, the campground has no grass - just dried weeds and gravel that was unsightly as well as unpleasant for our dog’s walks. The campground was clean and all sites have a view of the river and the wind turbine topped surrounding hills. There were postings that the river water had E. coli count too high for swimming AND that drinking water should be boiled as it’s ecological count was also high. We should have been notified of this by the ranger as we entered. Bottom line is that day use area is very nice for picnics and boating (but not swimming at this time). The campground is okay but we’ll look for a different one the next time we’re in the area.

A beautiful place to have quiet time. Sketchy cell service made up for by its beauty.

A favorite of mine. Clean, level sites. Yes it’s close to the highway and can be noisy! Views are incredible and usually full of friendly campers. The drive down into the canyon where the campground sits is a little scary the first time you drive down, but we pulled a 40 ft fifth wheel down (very carefully) and just glided right into our spot. A three because of noise and tight turn to get into the campground.

Just needed a place to stretch the legs and walk the dog. Turns out this was a great little park. Lots of boaters the day we were there.

LaPage Park is named after Corps of Discovery member Jean Baptiste Lepage, a French trapper who joined the Lewis and Clark expedition at the Mandan villages. Lewis and Clark called the John Day River the "River La Page".
I think both. You can reserve and you cam just show up
I think after a person in Louis and Clark expedition

Yes the park is closed but you can fish off of the dock and the rocks around the boat launch.
The family enjoyed the park. We spent park of our vacation there last year.
