Some complaints I have about here is that it is close to where the Frat houses are, so a lot of time police sirens, parties, and screaming can be heard. The walls here are very thin, I can usually hear when my upstairs neighbors are talking. There was a time three of the washers here (which are very small and cost 1.25 each time you use one) out of the ten were broken for months despite there being a way to report if a machine is broken. You can also only pick up packages during the time the office is open. You can also only use the thermostat to blow hot/cold air depending on when the entire building has the heater/chiller on. There were frequent times our power would go out at night due to people using space heaters because the building’s heater was not yet turned on during the winter. The kitchen is puny and I often have to use the stove top to store dishes while they dry because there is absolutely no counter space. The kitchen also has very little ventilation and as a result cooking can create a really stuffy environment, along with the fact that it’s really easy to set off the room’s smoke detector. One compliment that I have is maintenance is quick, usually the day after you put in a maintenance request. Other than that the staff are nice, but I don’t think this is worth the cost of rent there.

While I have not rented a place from here I have been in one of the rooms. These are pretty small rooms but there is a central hangout area for each floor. You are paying for the location, which is right next to campus, right next to Monroe. There is an exercise facility in the basement, but I never used it. Overall, you are paying for location and not much else.

They charged me a cleaning fee to clean what I cleaned, and didn't return my deposit for a VERY long time, and even then not in full. The property is nice, if not a little cramped, and the amenities are good, but it was not worth the headache in trying to get my security deposit back. Carefully consider your options before moving here.

Definitely book a room ASAP! The location is great, the staff is amazingly nice, there is free coffee in the office and more!!! My time at the GEM was great, I met a ton of nice people and am sad I had to move. The price may be a bit high, but that's with ALL utilities, AC/heating, laundry facilities and a gym downstairs and because of how close it is to campus. Some people say there is no climate control in their rooms, but there are thermostats in each room! I was comfortable year round :-) I highly recommend a room at the GEM!
