We really thought that Helen Woodward was a great place to adopt a kitten. We were so wrong. Either they don’t have a vet on staff or the vet they have is clueless. We have now spent close to 1000. On a kitten that we were told had a clean bill of health. Two days after getting our kitten home we ended up at the vet as the cat had major ear infections in both ears. Since then we have been back to the vet as the cat had a bad case of parasites. Helen Woodward response to our issue was from a person named Nada that said if we wanted we could bring the cat back but we would not be refunded our adoption fee. After weeks of going back and forth with them they decided to give us back our adoption fee minus a 50.00 fee!!! We would have been better of getting a kitten from Craig’s List. I would recommend that if you feel the need to adopt from HW take the time to have the animal completed checked out. These cats are all kept in close proximity of each other so if one has issues the chances are pretty good the whole group is effected. Just hope we can save someone else hundreds of dollars.

What a wonderful facility! The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the whole adoption process. They even supplied us with a gift bag of goodies and a free first vet visit. Plus, our puppy was already chipped and spayed when we got him. Anyone is welcome to go look at the animals up for adoption however the staff does want to know that you're serious about adoption before they will allow meet-and-greets. Would highly recommend and if we were to ever adopt another pet we would 100% come back here. So glad we found them! FYI, the map took us to their main office which is around the corner from the shelter location which is across from the Rancho Sante Fe Fire Station on El Apajo. They are open daily for walk-ins! (Had to add some pics of our new cutie 🥰)

I adopted an adorable puppy here. The staff is very helpful and courteous. They tell you fairly all the information you need to take care of your newly adopted pet. I am very happy 😊*****

This is the most professional and caring company. They are extremely thorough with their adoption process and make sure their animals go to the right home for both parties. They gave an extremely detailed medical list to show what was done for my dog. I would suggest this place to anyone looking to adopt.

Ya I think it is true because they do a lot for us and is the need a dog they get to pay half price For the dog🐩🐶🐕🐾
Mostly it is Blue Buffalo brown rice chicken flavor
I am not sure. It would be best to call and ask them.
Call animal protection. Leaving the pup out in the rain with no shelter is abuse. Please help this puppy.
Call them and ask.
They always have a ton of kittens in the summertime
It depends on the dog some can be just 90$ I"ve seen them go as high as 325$ which included spay or nuter, micro chip all current shots and licence. They usually have the price to adopt on the wall showing how much the adoption is for each animal right on the cage or kennel when looking for your new pet. There are never any hidden surprises. There very responsible about taking the best of care for any animal that they put up for adoption. You can always call them if you are unclear about any questions or concerns reguarding any animal and they are very good about telling you if there my be any behavioral issues or health concerns about that breed or particular dog. Hope that somewhat answered your question....Bruce Brinson
First, you ADOPT an animal (not sell), but they have many varieties of breeds. You can check on their website to see adoptable dogs.
No but you can get rabies vaccines at many pet supply stores in the area. It's not done every day so check the websites for free vaccine days
You will probably need to call Amanda straation on Monday
I heard $450.
That's a great question, timing and availability are also a factor. I will double check for you tho
Depends on the animal
I am 80 years old and my 5 year old, 35 pound cocker spaniel needs his teeth cleaned. Do you give discounts for seniors with dog teeth cleaning? Thank you.
Yes
Right now there is a lot of demand for adopting dogs. Most shelters are also operating on reduced staffing as well which causes a delay. Your best bet is a place like Helen Woodward. Once they process your application you will be a given an adoption date. Most likely it will be a few months off. However, you can call and check for any cancellations and change the date/time of your adoption.
Get a professional dog trainer.
And, yes, you are paying, but you also get an already neutered/spayed/vaccinated pet. Plus, there's usually stuff they give you too....tickets etc. All available animals are listed on the website. No appointment necessary.
They sometimes have Chihuahuas but be prepared for a bill around $500.00.
I did not have a home expection. you just pay the fees and complete forms and you take them home the same day.
Of course, please do so. Lot of hearts looking to adopt. You little Ion Sno will be with great hands soon.
Call your local animal control.
Helen's the place to go. Bring the kids great place lots to see.
Yes! Check their frequently updated website: https://animalcenter.org/adopt-a-pet/adoptable-dogs?nocache=1
Yes they take donations. You can drop them off at their main building. Or I volunteer there on weekends and would be happy to take them for you. Just let me know.
The list of currently available dogs is posted on their website. https://animalcenter.org/adopt-a-pet/adoptable-dogs
They are generally $500 and above for dogs and puppies. Cats are lower.
They have Pet Boarding on their property. I would check their website for costs.
Ask your vet or get another opinion
I don't believe so, but you should call and ask.
I believe their Adoption Fee is $467 including microchip fee.
Most veterinarians have universal microchip scanners. Check with your regular veterinarian, they can write the number down for you, then you can call the company.
No, but unless the dogs have a name that they know they do name all the animals that come into the shelter
It's best to get one younger., but not Male. The same age spayed female might work. It all depends on the temperament of your current cat
I think you meant to say can you bring your other dog when choosing a second dog and I am sure that is something they would actually encourage you to do. They are very interested in ensuring that the dog fits in to the family environment which includes how well they get along or interact with other pets in the house.
$350 to adopt puppies and $35 for a microchip cost... They have military discounts so they should have senior discounts I work there so I should know...
No, not in the cages. The even have signs saying please do not touch the dogs in their kennels. They ask that you fill out an application and then they bring out the dogs you wish to meet with in to a separate seating area.
They keep them updated everyday i believe every hr
They are a no kill shelter
Dog adoptions yes
Pls don't ever declaw a cat. It's the same as cutting off your fingers and/or toes at the first joints. They live with pain and emotional distress the rest of their lives. Their personalities often change afterwards. I've had five house cats for many years and have easily trained them all to use scratching posts. They like the ones wrapped horizontally with jute rope. I have about 5 posts throughout the house. Small jute rugs also are favored (2×3). Declawing should be outlawed!
They do have chickens in their Education department, but not for adoption.
You can check their website for adoptable animals.
To apply to be a foster parent, you have to go to their website. You can also check their website for adoptable animals. For more info, call them at 858-756-4117 Ext 366.
