C'mon Home Depot, you can do better than this. Two experiences, one from awhile ago and one today. 1. This is the first and only blatant, disrespectful and mortifying experience of sexism I've experienced in a retail establishment. I wanted to purchase a wood stain, but had questions as to color indoor/outdoor. The man working the paint counter ignored me for well over 30min, helping each male customer prior to myself, even though I did my best to politely get his attention. (I'm stupidly patient & hate confrontation) I patiently waited until no one else was there & I was helped. Upon helping me, he just kept telling me that you can't stain that kind of wood & I had no clue what I was talking about. They were unfinished common boards. You can absolutely stain unfinished wood. While I don't do well with confrontation & asking for help, I'm painfully independent, a single mom of 14yrs, and pretty darn handy. Taking on home improvement projects, especially something as simple as staining wood, is a normal thing. While he kept insisting that I didn't know what I was talking about and wouldn't help me, I continued to point to my cart full of wood & ask "That wood. Common boards. You can't stain common boards." He was visibly irritated with me, becoming more & more condescending & would only respond that my wood couldn't be stained. At some point, I realized that I was getting nowhere with this guy, people were staring & I felt shamed and embarrassed. I left the counter, went to customer service and asked to speak to a manager. I explained the situation, she took down my information and I left. The manager did call the next day, but I didn't call back - this was on me. I wanted nothing to do with Home Depot & didn't shop there for 6mos. 2. Fast forward to Memorial Day, my grill decided to die just as it's time to feed a backyard full of people. Yikes! Snap decision to run down to Home Depot & just buy a new one. They had models put together in the front of the store, so I paid, loaded it up & was on my way. When I get home & started to put the remaining pieces together, I realized that there was no handle or instruction manual/warranty info, etc. Under the circumstances, I didn't have time to load it back in my car, take it back to Home Depot & either get the parts or exchange. So, I looked around at what I had on hand, spied some pink, glass furniture knobs, grabbed some pot holders & called it good for that night Here's the "Home Depot failed" part... when I called about the missing part & paperwork, I was told (rather rudely) that they couldn't help me & I needed to order a new handle from the manufacturer & download the manual/warranty info. Seriously Home Depot? I have to order a part, at my own cost, for your mistake. Incredibly uncool. Overall, this customer continues to rack up unpleasant experiences with your store - both customer service related. This isn't ok. Edit: I'd like to note a positive customer service experience from the grill night. The young man who helped me was excellent. Incredibly helpful & kind, he helped load into the car (tight fit) and was genuinely nice to us. I didn't get his name, but it was definitely a bright spot. Whoever you are, thank-you for that. If a customer remembers you in a really positive light, you're doing something right. 🌞

Home depot is a good store, the employees is friendly and they seem to be a lot more knowledgeable now then what they were 8-9 years ago, I had a better experience this time around then the past.

Overall, I prefer Home Depot to its competitor. That being said, they could learn a lot from that other retailer when it comes to retail standards. The layout of their stores is so confusing and choppy. This store in particular, was a huge mess and made absolutely no sense. Some retail re-organization is certainly in order!

Home Depot is what it's always been. Stopped in to look at microwaves and found no counter top units on display. As we were leaving we noticed some units on clearance. It wasn't a brand we were considering, but the price was better than we budgeted. One of the associates was helpful to open the box so we could verify some measurements to make sure it would fit where we needed it. She also double checked the price, and it was $17 less than marked, so an even better value. So far it's working well for us.
