Such an awesome family owned local shop. Owners are super nice and knowledgeable. They are always willing to help me find an item when I get stuck or help me with a recipe. My 13 year old loves coming here with me. If you enjoy Asian food and cooking, this is the next place for supplies. It literally had everything you would need for meals. The Sake selection is pretty awesome. When you stop in ask the owner about it. He will be happy to educate you on Sake. :)

So my parents and husband got kicked out of this market by the owner. The owner said he asked my elderly parents to put on their mask properly — three times. My parents, retired physicians in their late 80s and all-around respectful people, have no issue with compliance, but they do not hear well. But to make sure they understood they weren’t welcome the owner told them not to come back! So my husband goes to the store to speak with the owner about the situation (plus, we needed some items.) The owner continues his tirade towards my husband, but caps it off with “You can get the hell out of my store too!” A terrible way for local business to disrespect customers and locals for that matter too! Should we chalk it up to the owner having a bad day or that he is just an a$$hole? Anyone else experience this?

A lovely store with very thoughtful owners. I try to come as often as I need and always find what I'm looking for. They started carrying new snacks and vegan items which is very exciting. Thank you for all the hard work you do.

Love this little market. Great selection of food from different ethnicity. They also have a great selection of kitchenware. I bought wonderful bowls and plates made in Japan. My favorite buy was a stockpot made in South Korea. Small, lightweight but quality is fantastic.

The most times I've been there, they have had pretty big things of fresh ginger.
They do sell canned B.B.Q. Eel. Though that is all I have seen personally.
Depends on the type you are looking for. I have nori, wakame, and arame from there. They also have seasoned nori and kombu. Seaweed salad too!
small store yet excellent selections for korean, japanese and other asian grocery. clean, well organized
Pretty intense but good. You must wash hands before entering. Only five people in the store at a time, strictly enforced. One way aisles, clearly marked.
Sun Oriental has limited designated parking for customers behind the building. It can be accessed via Park St. a one way street that branches off of Congress St. Otherwise, there are street and private lot paid parking nearby!
I'd say give them a call. Very polite couple run it and they may even be able to special order.
Yes.
Suns prices for food in general are very reasonable. Their gifts and trinkets can be a little pricey. Ive been shopping there since my daughter was born(24 yrs!) I would always recommend it!
I haven't seen it there. Try Whole Foods.
I've seen dried curry leaves for sale there. They have one of the best spice selections in Portland
