Awesome museum to go and learn about railroading. Admission is a donation. If you love steam engines this is the place to come.

This place is AMAZING!!! If you know anything about railroading then likely you know about the Southern Pacific Daylight trains and the mighty locomotives that towed them down the line. You can get up close and personal with the exquisitely maintained SP 4449. You can stand next to one of the drivers that's powered by 5000hp of steam. And if you're lucky enough to show up when it's being prepped for a run, you can experience the 400 and some odd thousand pounds of metal and water and firebrick that slowly comes to life. You can feel the vibration of the fire pressure escaping the fire box, the heat emanating from this incredible machine and the beauty of the color scheme, the streamlining, the shine of the paint and the awe that will strike you when you understand the life that this machine truly lives when it's steamed. Truly amazing. The best part of the organization though is not the mighty 4449, or the other locomotive or the rolling stock in the livery... It's the people. The passion that goes into the machines here is amazing. And the accessibility to them for information, stories, history and technical inquiries is everything. If not for the people, this organization would be nothing. Do yourself a favor and give them a visit. It's worth every second of your time. And drop them 1$, 5$ or simply a note thanking them for their efforts. They deserve every bit of encouragement anyone can give!

It was fantastic to see the Engines and the folks there doing work on them and to see the shear size of them all. I was really excited to see them in person and all the rest of the other items on display there. Although it's free there is a $5.00 donation.

Trains are awesome. This museum is dedicated to some of the most unique trains to ever reach the west coast. The location is clean and these trains are just incredible.

I do.
Hello This is something we are talking about. We will keep everyone posted as plans get decided. Thanks!
Hello - It's hard to say at this time. There is currently some work being done at the Enginehouse - work that can be done while keeping up social distancing. As soon as its safe I'm sure the work will continue if full force. Thanks!
Hello Dante - We don't have a model train layout here at the Center. We have full sized locomotives! We do have children chuggington train tables. Thanks!
It takes 20-30min, and one of the coach cars are really cool in side. And yes it's 10 bucks and they take card, the train it self is where you get the tickets, goes to oaks park and you may get off and enjoy a afternoon there and return on the train back to the museum which is located near omsi. By the way again the train tickets are purchased at the train, not the museum.
Found out. Starting at 1230-430pm every hour on the 1/2 hr. Parking 2.5 blocks S of orhc caruthers & water.
There are not any wheelchairs at all. Most of the wheels are on the train and too big to sit on.
There is old train engines to look at and there is train rides to oaks park free to get into the museum and small price to get on the train
Hello - Gabriel is correct - the 4449 does still run. She pulls our Holiday Express train that runs weekends right after Thanksgiving through the 2nd weekend of December. We are planning on running for 2021. If you have not seen her run, I highly recommend it - it's quite a site!
